We thought long and hard about how best to note our anniversary without making it about us. Out of the process two points emerged. First, this accident of the calendar presents an opportunity to celebrate the past, present and future of the graphic design community. Second, we think the best way to do this is to ask your opinion on some provocative and fun topics because, frankly, you know more than we do and we just like hearing from you. Accordingly, in each print and app edition of GDUSA this year, we will present selected results of a massive poll — being conducted right now — about who you respect and what you admire.
The first segment presents your take on the most influential graphic designers of the past 50 years. Future magazines will look at favorite design projects, the future of print and of inhouse design, the revolutionary changes in tools and technology, design education and job searches, and what the next 50 years may bring. The results are far from scientific and we know all the purist arguments against trying to quantify the unquantifiable — talent and greatness. Still, we believe that you’ll find the lists fun, informative, thought-provoking, and a snapshot of sentiment at the moment. We’ll serve up these historical hors d’oeuvres all year long, and we will be sure to leave space in the magazine, on the website and this blog for you to rave or, more likely, rant.
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. You can take the survey here.
