November 2016 Newsletter
I started to write this note about logo trends, but the election keeps pulling us all back. So forgive me if I mention a recent piece by Nicholas Kristof in NYTimes that strikes a positive chord for moving forward (“A 12 Step Program”). An anti-Trumper clearly, but he sees nuance: accept the results even while never acquiescing to injustice; stop demonizing Trump voters but be vigilant about racism and sexism when it exists; get out of your media and social bubble but embrace your core values and do what you can, however small the steps, to support causes and institutions that epitomize what you stand for; remember that politics zig and zag so hang in there. This seems like a balanced short-term strategy, and it is probably healthier than my wife Susan’s approach, which has been to stay mildly inebriated at all times since November 8th. ‒ Gordon Kaye

Stop, Collaborate and Listen

Smooth relationships. That’s a key goal for in-house creative professionals, according to new research for the Creative Team of the Future program. But working with colleagues in other departments is often easier said than done. Following are five common collaboration challenges, as told by in-house designers:

  • Other departments don’t understand our role and capabilities.
  • Poor communication is crippling productivity.
  • No one can make a decision.
  • Approval processes drag on for days ‑ or weeks.
  • We don’t have a shared workflow.

Get actionable tips for overcoming these obstacles by downloading Collaboration in the Workplace: How to Overcome 7 Common Challenges.
