GDUSA’s Package Design Enewsletter
A few thoughts. First, the Lays package redesign (below) acknowledges upfront what we all are coming to recognize, i.e., many packaging projects are now defined by how they look and interact on social media. Not a bad thing, necessarily, just a thing. Second, Olympic logos are often the target of snark because they are, by nature, cliches and freighted with extraneous meaning. So it is with the new Paris 2024 logo (below), a valiant effort already under attack for evoking a dating site. It doesn’t help that the organizers claim the symbol pays homage to France, globalism, the gold medal, women’s rights, the Art Deco movement, and a couple of (hundred) other things. Third, we note our inaugural CBD and cannabis graphics showcase (below) while, coincidently, reporting on Neenah’s introduction of a new hemp-fiber packaging paper — once again confirming that design for cannabis-related products is here to stay and packed with potential. — Gordon Kaye
