5 Job Search Trends That Could Give You an Edge

TakeFive by RobertHalfIt’s safe to say that the COVID-19 experience has permanently changed the way Americans think about work, emphasizing flexibility, work-life balance and personal wellbeing. It’s also changed the way job seekers look for work. Here are a few trends to be aware of if you seek a new role in 2022:

  1. Remote working is here to stay. Many firms now offer some level of remote work, which means you can expand your search. Consider employers across the country who urgently need your skills – and may be willing to offer generous pay and benefits to access them.
  2. Virtual interviews are part of the job search, and it remains important to prepare and dress like you would for an in-person interview. Make sure your internet connection is strong, your video software is up-to-date and home distractions are kept to a minimum.
  3. Candidates want fulfilling, purpose-drive roles. If you seek a job that’s professionally and personally rewarding, consider companies with expanded employee perks and benefits, as well as forward-thinking policies on diversity, equity and inclusion and the environment.
  4. Online branding is playing a larger role. Do whatever you can to cultivate and expand your online presence. Build out your LinkedIn profile, engage with thought leaders in your field and share content that reflects your interests and expertise.
  5. Job seekers can be freer asking for what they want. Employers are eager to hire for positions and offset turnover, which could give you the upper hand. Consider the various areas you can negotiate, like salary, remote work, flexible scheduling and vacation time.
