Fort Worth TX: Stuart Bacon Advertising/Public Relations has promoted Patti Smith from associate creative director to creative director. The announcement came from Patty Potter, vice president of creative services. In the new position, Smith recommends and implements creative concepts and strategies for clients, manages the agency's creative staff and participates in the agency's business development activities. She joined the firm two years ago; previously she served as creative director or senior art director for other Fort Worth-based advertising firms.

Cincinnati OH: Libby Perszyk Kathman brings Jeffrey Work on board as production director. He has many years of packaging experience. Previously with Hulefeld Associates, Work was responsible for production art as well as the implementation and maintenance of the company's computers and network. He earned a BFA in graphic design from the Kansas City Art Institute. Libby Perszyk Kathman specializes in brand identity development and management, and has worked on brands like Microsoft, IBM, Pantene, Pampers, Coors, Olay, 9-Lives, Valvoline and Nerf.

Buffalo NY: Art director and past president of the Art Directors/Communicators of Buffalo, Jim Charlier has launched JCharlier Communication Design. He says that using a decade and a half experience, advanced technology and a network of independent professionals, the new firm will provide creative design consultation and project management for print advertising, web development, identity development, package design and collateral design. "I've opened my own office to help those companies that cannot afford a full-service agency. We can specifically and economically meet the needs of a project without sacrificing quality," he explains.

Boston MA: Square One/East adds Michele Mangiacotti as an art director, according to Fred Bertino and Jamie Mambro, principals in the Boston office of Square One Communications, which has headquarters in Dallas. Mangiacotti spent five years in the creative department at Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopoulos. She has also had stints at Houston Effler Herstek Favat and Doyle Advertising and Design, all in Boston.

Chicago IL: DraftWorldwide has hired Laura Bensman as senior vice president, creative director. She joins the firm from Frankel & Company, where she was group creative director. DraftWorldwide has offices in 26 countries, billings of more than $2.7 billion and a client roster that includes Compaq, American Express, General Motors and Kellogg's. The integrated global marketing agency is a unit of The Interpublic Group of Companies.

Boston MA: Chris Pinkham has been promoted to vice president, director of design at Clarke Goward. This makes him responsible for all design at the full service marketing communications firm whose clients include Papa Gino's, D'Angelos Sandwich Shops, Bull HN Worldwide, Biocompatibles Eyeware, Woronoco Savings Bank, NSTAR, and FM Global Insurance. Pinkham is a graduate of the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. New York NY: Interbrand Group appoints four seasoned branding executives to senior positions in its New York and San Francisco offices. Andy Bateman is upped to managing director of the New York office of Interbrand Interactive, a new unit that creates and executes brand-building strategies for products sold on and through the web. The UK native came to the US as part of the team charged with the transformation of J. Walter Thompson New York. David Weisman, creative director of Interbrand Interactive in New York, comes from T3Media, where he was creative director. Rita Rodriguez is group director, brand strategy, and Nick Russell is US director of internal brand alignment.

New York NY: Brand consultancy Sterling Group makes an appointment and a promotion. Helen Morey, executive producer, interactive, moves over from K2 Design where she was an interactive producer and responsible for production management of the WorldCom account. Doug Popovich is raised to vice president, production from production services director. He joined the Sterling Group in 1998 from Mercer Management Consulting where he was a production manager. His range of experience includes educational publishing, corporate annual reports and business presentations.

Parsippany NJ: John Plocic has joined the marketing communications firm of Francioli Weiman & Company as vice president of industrial marketing. Chicago IL: MLR Design, the brand identity design firm formerly known as Murrie Lienhart Rysner & Associates, names Candy Piemonte to the post of director of strategic design. Piemonte is responsible for facilitating creative efforts between MLR Design and the company's design partnerships. Piemonte has worked for over 15 years as a designer, design director and marketing consultant in Chicago and New York with two other national and international design firms. MLR Design specializes in package design, corporate identity, naming, e-business branding, and structural design for clients including Nabisco LifeSavers, World Kitchen, Quaker Oats and Target.

Boston MA: Modernista! adds two associate creative directors. Will Uronis and Shane Hutton both come to the marketing communications and branding agency from Arnold Communications, where they worked on the Volkswagen account. Louisville KY: Mary Lou Fitzer was recently promoted to art director for the Brown-Forman Spirits account at PriceWeber. She has worked over the past three years as an assistant art director on other Brown-Forman products, Brown and Williamson Tobacco and Cummins. Prior to joining PriceWeber, Fitzer was an art director at Creative Services in Fort Mitchell, KY. PriceWeber, with offices in Louisville and Chicago, boasts over 100 employees and reported $71 million in capitalized billings for fiscal 2000. Dallas TX: Chairman of the board and ceo of Williamson Printing, Jerry Williamson, has been presented the 2000 Lewis Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award. Thought by many to be the printing industry's highest honor, the award recognizes his impact on the industry and his volunteer contributions on both the national and local levels. Williamson served recently as the chairman of the National Printing Industries of America; his $92 million a year printing company currently employs 500 people.

Alexandria VA: Randolph W. Camp was elected as the 101st chairman of Printing Industries of America. He will oversee direction and activities of the 14,000+ member association which represents an industry with more than one million employees and over $156 billion in sales. Camp is currently CEO of Walton Graphic Media. Charles Stay, president and ceo of Bert-Co Industries in Los Angeles, was named first vice chairman. Michael Marcian, president and ceo of Corporate Press in Landover, MD, was elected second vice chairman. Harry R. Duncanson, Dynacolor Graphics, became vice chairman for government affairs. Joe Polanco, president of PIA of Texas, was elected affiliate managers representative and will serve on the executive committee. Eileen Hall, American National Ltd., Miami, and Gene D. Scott, Pony X Press, Reynoldsburg, OH, were elected as new members of the executive committee.

Culver City CA: Entertainment and broadcast marketing communications firm Pittard Sullivan has expanded its Print Group to provide a full complement of end-to-end brand solutions, including a broader spectrum of print-related services. Michael Connell has been named vice president and creative director of the Print Group. He joins Janet Levinson, who has been upped to vice president of operations, Print Group. In addition, Pittard Sullivan has named Nancy Mazzei senior art director in charge of growing the Print Group, in New York. Connell was previously president and creative director of Media Artists, Bergamo, Italy, a strategic communications and design firm specializing in sports and fashion apparel markets. Levinson originally joined Pittard Sullivan in 1998 as Print Group manager; from 1986-97 she worked with Warner Bros. Records, starting as an art director and leaving as an executive art director. Mazzei was previously a senior art director/creative director with Showtime's Creative Services Red Group.

Exton PA: Kelly Bellew was appointed art director at Hunter, a 15-year-old identity marketing and interactive communications company. She will be responsible for concept, design and art direction. "Kelly's ability to incorporate the most recent communication design trends, including interactive technology, makes her a great complement to our agency," says John Willis, president and creative director. Hunter clients include Temple University's Fox School of Business, Guess Watches, Philadelphia Gear, and Furman Foods.

Louisville KY: Marketing communications agency PriceWeber recently made several promotions in its creative services department. Senior art director Joel Villaflor until recently served as art director. Before joining PriceWeber, he ran his own design firm. Bill Green is now art director for the Brown-Forman Beverages Worldwide spirits account. Since joining the firm in 1998 he has served as associate art director and earlier as a computer designer. He previously worked at Republic Bank on its inhouse design team. Jenice Carolan and Shannon Downs have advanced from computer designer to associate art director. And John Hynes is promoted from production artist to computer designer.

Portland ME: VIA has welcomed an astonishing 62 new employees since January 2000 bringing its total to more than 150 at its offices in Portland Maine, New York and Columbus, Ohio. Form and function coexist, notes co-founder John Coleman, with the addition of the latest group of new professionals who cover the creative and production ends of the design spectrum. Mark Barensfeld was wooed to leave Boston's George P Johnson Company and client IBM Worldwide Events Marketing to develop creative for VIA clients as a senior practitioner. Bonnie Hamalainen, senior designer, has experience in print, three-dimensional and web design for east coast education and nonprofit clients. Diane Hills, new production director, has more than 25 years in print production and packaging development and spent 10 years at Cole-Haan prior to joining VIA. Keeping the design and production process integrated with the rest of VIA's operations is Jennifer Klumas, production systems manager. Former vp of operations at S.T. Vreeland, her background is a mix of process management, design experience and operational know-how.

Stone began her career more than a decade ago opening the Chicago office of the stock agency. Alexandria VA: The Board of Directors of Color Marketing Group has elected a new president for 2001-2002. As president, Jay de Sibour, senior director of sales and marketing services for Pantone, Inc., Carlstadt, NJ, will be responsible for planning and implementing programs that deliver value, benefits and services to CMG's members. "The physical, psychological and social attributes of color in today's environment are constantly changing and now embrace the elements of texture, pattern and special effects. In this expanding color environment, CMG provides a creative and stimulating venue, to employ color as a marketing tool, to explore the dynamics of color forecasting, design trends and new technologies," stated de Sibour. CMG is an international, not-for-profit association of 1,600 color designers. CMG members forecast color directions one to three years in advance for all industries, manufactured products and services.

Cleveland OH: Arras Group ups two creatives. Terry Pacifico is now creative director for the Home Group, responsible for overseeing the Moen, ICI, KraftMaid, Honeywell, Simmons and Macco accounts. A member of the Arras Group team since 1997, Pacifico has over 15 years of experience in advertising and has worked as a creative director, art director and graphic designer. Jennifer Grimes has been promoted to art director, supervising conceptual art direction in the Home Group. She has been with Arras Group for three years.

Boston MA: Digital Art Exchange, a managed internet and application service provider for the graphic communications industry, has promoted Katie Matrone to manager of marketing communications. As marketing coordinator, Matrone helped promote DAX through the design and development of related sales, marketing, direct mail and advertising materials, press releases and other collateral, while planning trade shows and industry events. In her new position, together with Charles Gehman, vp of technology, Matrone will seek to raise DAX brand awareness by overseeing marketing-related activities.
