Reality Checking Miss America
Stun Creative, an award-winning Los Angeles ad agency, recently produced these live action TV, intheater and radio campaigns to promote TLC's broadcast of "Miss America Live!" and the series "Miss America: Reality Check." Both campaigns inject humor — explosions, catwalks and a 20-foottall American Flag — into the normally staid proceedings of America's largest beauty contest. Said Heather Weiss, the VP of creative at TLC Marketing, "The spots Stun Creative produced for TLC are smart and funny, with exceptional production value." Creative credits go to Executive Producers Mark Feldstein and Brad Roth, DPs Omer Ganai and Vance Burberry, Production Designer Robert de Vico and Editors Dayne Tanioka and Doug Ryan, with GRFX animation from Buster Design.
Fairey Poster Challenges Guantanamo
Artist and graphic designer Shepard Fairey, creator of the iconic "André the Giant Has a Posse" and "Obey Giant" viral campaigns, designed a poster to promote the efforts of Witness Against Torture (WAT) to shut down the military prison at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. The posters, done in Fairey's bold signature style, debuted at a January protest outside the US Supreme Court that was sponsored by WAT, Amnesty International and the American Civil Liberties Union. Said WAT spokesperson Frida Berrigan, "We are blown away by what he has created, and think it will strike a chord with people — provoking, challenging, demanding a response."
SmartAd
When SmartWool, a Colorado company that manufactures winter wear from New Zealand merino wool, approached TDA Advertising & Design for a seasonal ad campaign, TDA officials tapped the Montreal illustrator Jessica Spring for the job.
"Her smooth, layered style and sense of depth meshed nicely with the Smart-Wool I.D. and especially their little spokesguy, 'Stymie,'" said Alex Rice,
a TDA art director. Creative Directors Jonathan Schoenberg and Thomas Dooley and Copywriter Justin Horrigan also contributed to the effort.
