In 1985, Shalmir Tippit Johnston joined HKS Architects, a Dallas, Texas-based architecture firm. As the firm's in-house graphic designer, she produced marketing and exhibit materials for its three U.S. offices. Today, HKS is a leading architectural design firm with 25 U.S. and international offices, and with project experience across the US and in 54 countries. The firm's creative services studio GrafxLab is lead by Johnston and includes a team of five exceptionally talented designers with diverse capabilities and skill-sets. The studio is charged with brand direction and management for all HKS print and electronic communications, exhibits, and special events, resulting in award-winning creative solutions. GrafxLab also produces creative materials for HKS clients and consultants. In the past six years, GrafxLab has been honored with 38 design awards and commendations.
