Beatley Gravitt Communications appoints Mike Shackelford as vice president and creative director. Shackelford has 19 years experience including a decade with SB&A and most recently CarMax, where he was creative manager of web copy. As part of his job at the Richmond-based agency, Shackelford collaborates with the firm's strategic marketing professionals and leads the creative team. Stephen Mohr is the new Director of Packaging-Marketing at Unisource Worldwide. Mohr reports to Ed Farley, Unisource Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications. He has held numerous marketing and sales management positions at FP International, FASTTrack Systems and Sealed Air Corporation. Mohr earned his B.S. degree in Marketing, Advertising and Sales Management from Indiana University. New York University names Vyomesh Joshi Executive Vice President of the Imaging and Printing Group at HP, the winner of the 2009 Prism Award, which is presented annually to recognize distinguished leadership in the graphic arts and communication industry. Joshi will receive the award at a luncheon on June 24 in New York. Prior Prism Award winners include Cathleen Black, President of Hearst Magazines, and Katherine Graham, CEO of The Washington Post. Flood Creative NY welcomes Renée Rubertucci-Whitworth as a partner, bringing more than 15 years experience in brand strategy and packaging design. Current and prior clients include Campbell's, Colgate-Palmolive, General Mills and Kraft, Nestle and Unilever. Draftfcb Chicago hires Jon Flannery and Doug Behm as senior vice president, creative director. Both new hires will work on the agency's KFC account and report to Rob Sherlock, Chief Creative Officer of Draftfcb Chicago. For the past eight years, Behm has served as SVP, group creative director of Element79, focused on brands including Gatorade, Propel and Tropicana. Previously, he spent six years at FCB Chicago as a creative director. Flannery has dedicated 17 years to Chicago advertising, most recently as SVP, group creative director at Leo Burnett. Two new board members have been elected by the Society for Environmental Graphic Design. Philip Lenger is president and founder of Show+Tell and Tali Krakowsky is first director and lead of experience design for Imaginary Forces. Clean Design announces that Natalie Perkins, president of the agency, is named a 2008 Marketing Impact leader. The award recognizes the outstanding achievements of marketing leaders in the professional field as well as in the community. Perkins joined Clean Design in 2007 and has led reorganizational efforts to build upon the agency's foundation of success. Megan Ruff joins Stan Gellman Graphic Design as a graphic designer, from St. Louis Sports Magazine. Ruff graduated from Maryville University in St. Louis with a BFA majoring in graphic design. Gellman also hired Katie Rhea as a graphic designer. She graduated from Auburn University majoring in graphic design and a minor in business administration. Josh Lawson signs on with Verge 180 as Manager of Interactive Media. Lawson, previously a site developer at QVC, brings with him experience in web technologies, building and maintaining custom websites and constructing e-commerce assignments. He has a degree in digital media from Drexel University. The Academy of Art University, San Francisco, says renowned design instructor Roland Young is to begin teaching at the School of Graphic Design. “He's 71 years old and he's still one of the most talked about design professors,” said Mary Scott, Chair, School of Graphic Design and a longtime friend and admirer of Young. Young began his design career at Capitol/Angel Records in 1964 under the guidance of Louis Danziger who Young refers to as his mentor. He later moved to A&M Records as creative director where he produced some of the music industry's finest album covers and advertising campaigns. Prior to joining the Academy of Art University faculty, Young was co-principal of the Tracey Shiffman/Roland Young Design Group. Young also consults for Meryl Pollen Design, and teaches his ex-student Imin Pao's design staff at Paper magazine. LMD hires designer Nicholas Takemoto, whose experience ranges from print and web to motion graphics design. He was previously a graphic designer at a multimedia firm in Silver Spring. Takemoto graduated from University of Maryland, Baltimore County, with a BA in Visual Design. LPK promotes Matt Wickert to Design Director, to bring his creative excellence and strategic thinking to the Kellogg's and Hershey brands. He is a graduate of Miami University. LPK also hired Sarah Stieby, as a Project Leader to work on the Pampers brand.
