PUMA Thinks Out Of The (Shoe)box
PUMA has unveiled the next step in its long-term sustainability
program, introducing a sustainable packaging and distribution
system by renowned industrial designer Yves Behar. Behar, of San
Francisco based fuseproject, designed a "Clever Little Bag" to
replace the everpresent cardboard shoebox with a reusable shoe
bag that protects each pair from damage. As a result of the 65%
paper reduction through the "Clever Little Bag" concept, PUMA
claims it will cut water, energy and diesel consumption on the
manufacturing level by more than 60% a year.

Smart Wordplays Reintroduce
Harvard Business Review Website
Harvard Business Review launched a new design and
website earlier this year. To get the word out, communications
company zig created a brand awareness campaign
spanning print, out-of-home, mobile and radio, including
large displays in key airports for business travelers. The
creative for HBR's "The Revival of Smart" campaign features
a bright, bold, graphic treatment that draws directly
from the new look and feel of the magazine. The headlines
are a series of smart wordplays — for example,
Open for Change and Subscribe to a Better Tomorrow —
aimed at the intelligent business professional who's likely
to get the spin and want to take a closer look. Getting
people to try the brand through interactive content also
would make it more engaging, thought zig's creative team
led by Creative Director/ Art Director Stephen Leps. Hence
zig came up with Text Smart, an SMS component in HBR's
airport installations, that encourages people to access a
mobile web page where they can read free articles and
get a free trial subscription. Leps worked with designer
Kelly Davidson, copywriter Geoff Berg, strategic planner
Ryan Wilson, team leader Carlie Naftolin and studio Cade
Chen on the project.
