PARTNERS, OCD

Jennifer Kinon is a founding partner of OCD, an independent branding and design agency. She is also a faculty member of the School of Visual Arts MFA Design Program and president of AIGA/NY. Kinon most recently worked for Michael Bierut at Pentagram in New York. Her work with Pentagram won mulitple awards and is included in the permanent collection at the Museum of Sex. Previously, Kinon was design director of NYC’s 2012 Olympic Bid and art director for Graphis Inc. She graduated from the University of Michigan, then earned an MFA from the School of Visual Arts.

Bobby C. Martin Jr. most recently worked as Senior Design Manager of Visual Communications at Nokia Design in London, where he oversaw communication and identity design across their global packaging range. Previously, he was design director of Jazz at Lincoln Center and worked at Ogilvy & Mather’s Brand Innovation Group (BIG). Martin has been featured in Fast Company’s Masters of Design 2010 and his work has won awards from major clubs and publications, as well as a Sappi Ideas that Matter Grant for his work for the Abyssinian Baptist Church of Harlem. He has served on the Board of AIGA/NY and taught at SVA. Martin holds an MFA from the School of Visual Arts and a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Where were you born, where do you live, did this effect your design style or sensibilities?
We were both born on the East Coast. Martin in Hampton VA, Kinon in Wayne NJ. And we both live in New York City now. We met at the School of Visual Arts MFA Design Program. The pace and opportunity of the city is ridiculous. It is always changing and we get to change and learn with it and when we're really lucky we get to push it along a little.

If you were not a designer, what would you do?
Martin would be an Illustrator.
Kinon would be an FBI agent.
