Students to Watch in 2011
SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS
Born and raised in Los Angeles CA, Andy Sir is a graphic designer currently in his second year of graduate school at the School of Visual Arts in the MFA Design Department. Before attending graduate school, Sir had a short-lived career as an ad man that didn’t really work out. He received his BFA at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, in Advertising with a focus in Art Direction.
What made you decide to go to design school?
While working as an advertising art director, I realized that I was more excited about the jobs that were going to the graphic design department and realized that my interests lay elsewhere. I tried to transition by being a freelance graphic designer but I had too many ads in my portfolio.
Has it been a positive experience?
Absolutely. I’ve had the opportunity to grow in ways I never expected to as a designer and as a creative thinker.
It was a yellow 2010 for me.
