ACADEMY OF ART UNIVERSITY, SAN FRANCISCO

Daniel Tran got his start in the visual world at the tender age of 11. Working alongside his immigrant parents, Daniel first served as translator for his mother who sewed garments for a local flea market and later did merchandising for the family business. From these humble but creatively entrepreneurial beginnings, he began his love affair with fashion and visual arts. Since then, he has continued to support the efforts of small businesses, nonprofits, universities, and commercial clients through graphic design. From brand development to book publishing, his work appears on billboards, fashion lookbooks, industry websites, and the runway. Through his MFA program, Daniel has mastered typography as well as created a compelling portfolio. He is currently the Associate Design Director for FIRST 5 Santa Clara County, a California org-anization that dedicates tobacco taxes to local health and education programs for young children ages 0-5. With his passion for typography, he is collaborating on a range of luxury bridal stationery products. When not designing, Daniel can be found in a bookstore searching for typography books or hunting down exquisite paper textures. His inspirations include Mies van der Rohe, Wolfgang Weingart, vintage menswear, and those with an unforgivable knack for attention to detail.

Mantra or Saying You Live By?
Mies van der Rohe once said that being good is more important than being original. Originality is a product, not an intention.
