Album Cover for Brooklyn Band Reflects Musical Patterns

Album cover design by The Collected Works reveals patterns in the music

The Collected Works has designed an album packaging and collateral project for the Brooklyn band EMEFE. The 8-piece band focuses on a mix of digital and analog techniques to hide and reveal musical patterns that gives rise to tension and release.

With this concept in mind, The Collected Works used organic and digital manipulation to develop all the packaging. The front and back of the vinyl sleeve were created by writing code that  allowed the designers to generate black and white patterns and typography based on natural growth patterns, such as those in coral and tree branches.

Via this technique, The Collected Works manipulated the software to generate different artwork for different elements of the project including the interior sleeve, apparel, stickers, tour posters and announcements. The end result, says Justin Colt of the design studio, is an aesthetic that feels appropriate, edgy and unpredictable.
