AIGA Criticizes Tokyo Olympic Games For Spec Work

The AIGA has written a letter to the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee criticizing the decision to crowdsource the logo design. Nearly 15,000 entries came from people trying to win a small cash prize and tickets to the opening ceremonies. Addressed to Yoshiro Mori, president of the committee and signed by AIGA Executive Director Richard Grefé, the letter states, in part: “While we don’t doubt that the Olympic Committee had good intentions with an open-call contest, we feel compelled to bring them up to speed on AIGA’s strong stance against spec work.
