Pantone Video: Eddie Opara Says New Colors Mean New Enlightenment

New video with Pentagram's Eddie Opara

To celebrate its current high-profile launch of 112 New PANTONE Colors for graphic design, Pantone continues its collaboratation with leading designers to discuss their relationship with color and to showcase how they are creating Pantone-inspired works using the new colors.

The initiative includes high-profile Pentagram partner Eddie Opara, book cover legend Chip Kidd and cutting-edge art director Jessica Walsh of Sagmeister & Walsh — each of whom is making a video to share with the creative community.

The latest video features Mr. Opara. In it, he reminisces about his first client and critic (his mom), discusses his creative process, and links the PANTONE Formula Guide, the comprehensive solid color guide for designers, printers and color decision makers, to the history and tradition of graphic design.

He particularly praises the role of the Guide in giving him the confidence “to reproduce color, again and again and again, without compromise” and the new colors in giving him new perspectives and “enlightenment.”

Mr. Opara’s contribution, the third in the series, joins a video of Jessica Walsh and a video of Chip Kidd, each of whom takes us into their workplace, talks about careers and concerns, and spotlights the role that various Pantone products and the 112 New PANTONE Colors play in enhancing their work.
