Kean University
The Robert Busch School of Design (RBSD), Michael Graves College, Kean University, stands among America’s premier design schools through its distinctive combination of nationally recognized faculty, integrated professional experience, and commitment to equity and excellence.
Students learn from thought leaders who actively shape the field, including Distinguished Professor Robin Landa (2025 New Jersey Advertising Hall of Fame and 2025 AIGA Steven Heller Prize recipient) and Associate Professor Ed Johnston, whose innovative work bridges creative technology and design, representing mentorship from contemporary practitioners.
Professional immersion begins day one. Students work with real clients through the in-house design studio practicum and attend the annual Thinking Creatively Conference, which brings luminaries such as Nick Law, Stefan Sagmeister, and Debbie Millman to campus. Regular field trips to New York City agencies and studios place students at the epicenter of global innovation.
The program’s four undergraduate concentrations—Advertising, Graphic Design, Interior Design, and Industrial Design—foster cross-disciplinary collaboration that mirrors contemporary practice. Students develop fluency in art direction, branding, UI/UX, motion design, and social media alongside technologies like AI, AR, and VR, cultivating the creative thinking that distinguishes outstanding portfolios.
RBSD makes excellence accessible. Affordable study-abroad opportunities in Rome and Wenzhou, China, build cultural literacy essential for global design practice. As part of an R2 Research Institution and federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution, the School combines innovation with equity.
