Washington University in St. Louis
The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis is a leader in architecture, art, and design education. We advance our fields through innovative research and creative practice, excellence in teaching, a world-class university art museum, and a deep commitment to addressing the social and environmental challenges of our time. We offer more than a dozen unique degree programs within a tier-one research university for both graduate and undergraduate students, supplemented by several creative research centers, including Island Press, the Office for Socially Engaged Practice, and the Dowd Illustration Research Archive. Undergraduates in design may pursue a BFA or a BA as well as second majors and minors in diverse academic fields.
Students are free to explore drawing, typography, graphic design, illustration, book arts, and interaction design and more. The MFA in Illustration & Visual Culture program combines studio practice in illustration and writing with the study of visual and material culture. With a focus on illustrator authorship, this two-year, fully residential program is made for illustrators, comic artists, and designers interested in popular visual matter. WashU’s new Master of Design for Human-Computer Interaction and Emerging Technology is a two-year, STEM-designated program offering an innovative approach to digital product design, prioritizing societal issues, ethical and moral concerns, and the larger implications of technology. samfoxschool.washu.edu/
