With its last update nearly 10 years ago, Google has refreshed the iconic ‘G’ icon. In 2015, Google had changed the ‘G’ icon from serif to sans serif and abandoned its lowercase white ‘g’ on a blue background for the circular design of the past decade. The newly designed ‘G’ no longer has four solid color sections; instead, the colors all bleed into each other in a gradient style that has the effect of enhancing color depth and balance. Other Google-owned products — YouTube and Gemini, the AI tool — have already embraced gradients as have several other tech brands. The update is live on the Google iOS; it is not clear yet whether Google will refresh its main six letter logo immediately or whether other product logos, like Chrome or Maps, are changing.
