Kayla writes: “I have always had a love for art and since a very early age, it has been all I’ve ever wanted to do (it helped that I wasn’t very athletic). I decided to pursue graphic design because I’m fascinated by the psychology of it. When I design I try to keep in mind how my work makes a viewer feel. My co-op experience at EY Intuitive allowed me to explore that. In UX design, designers try to create the best conditions for users to complete their tasks. During user-testing, I saw first-hand the way my designs made someone feel and respond. My love for fine art influences my process. I sketch all my designs before I apply them on screen and often utilize hand-done textures and illustration. My desk is filled with failed drawings and plans (I’m a hoarder of unsuccessful ideas). I find each one extremely valuable in terms of what to do next. My time studying abroad in London inspired my love of travel and after university I hope to see the world, eat all the food and design.”

I try not to use any one typeface too often but I can’t resist a good condensed font.
GREATEST STRENGTH/WEAKNESS AS A DESIGNER?
Graphic design is always my priority and I’m not afraid to put in a lot of hours to reach my own personal standards. However, I sometimes have trouble accepting positive feedback and compliments.

Definitely not a doctor (sorry mom). Makeup artist or a supervillain.
