NAIL Develops Local Identity For Rhode Island Soccer Team

Nail Communications develops a club identity for Rhode Island's new professional men’s soccer team. Each element of the Rhode Island FC design was crafted with the state’s character and history in mind, seeking a mix of heritage and new energy.

Nail Communications has created the club identity for Rhode Island’s new USL Championship soccer team, Rhode Island FC (RIFC). The assignment included designing the team crest or shield, name, colors, brand guidelines, crafting a team manifesto and producing two videos. “We wanted RIFC to feel authentic to Rhode Islanders, but in a way that was fresh, and energized,” said Nail Design Director Myles Dumas, who led the project alongside Senior Account Manager, Chris Brown. Each element of the design was crafted intentionally with Rhode Island’s character and history in mind.

The state colors – yellow and blue – provided inspiration but were reimagined for the team. A new signature color was created, dubbed RIFC Amber, and is paired with a dark navy appropriately named “Bay Blue,” a nod to the Ocean State’s connection to water. The crest melds the iconic Rhode Island anchor with lightning bolts to create a new symbol that mixes heritage with forward-moving energy.
