BuzzFeed suddenly has the look and feel of a newspaper. The hyperviral publisher has launched a serious journalistic spinoff called BuzzFeed News – previously a channel on Buzzfeed.com – and with the initiative comes a new design.
Buzzfeed News is presented in stark black and white, with modern sans serif headlines over traditional newspaper-like copy. The spinoff displays a more aggressive approach to the information hierarchy with a tight news bar, large center splash, and several other stories all before the fold. White space takes the place of BuzzFeed’s gray backdrop.
“Our hope is that the new identity reflects our ability to span a range of coverage from social news to serious and hard-hitting investigations,” comments Creative Director Dennis Huynh.
