Modernized Oval Shape and Bolder Look
One of the longest family owned and operated lumber companies in upstate New York reached out to Kevin Hall Design for purposes of rebranding. The company is located just a short drive from where the historic 1969 Woodstock Music Festival took place. Originally opened in 1948, WYDE Lumber Company prides itself on modern efficiency and service but the company felt its identity had become dated.
Today, the WYDE Lumber Company has a brand new identity. According to Kevin Hall: “I made several recommendations as to how to improve the company’s identity. The original WYDE Lumber Company’s oval shaped logo was very familiar to those in the area. I recommended we modernize the old oval shape and allow the company’s name to boldly break out of the confining and restrictive shape. With our total redesign of the logo, we were able to leverage the established equity built around the previous logo, while still reminding customers of the company they knew and trusted. Another recommendation we made was to visually give the company name ‘WYDE’ a much more bold, dynamic and contemporary look. The letter ‘y’ was intentionally customized and specifically designed to give the logotype a very distinctive and mnemonic look. The previous company’s logo colors, red and black, were retained and applied to the new logo to build on the equity and familiarity that had been built up over time.”
Hall says the identity has been very well received by its customers and the lumber and building industry and it is currently being applied to outdoor signage, collateral materials and website.
