In 2022, amidst the lingering challenges of a global pandemic, the team at The Working Assembly sought a creative endeavor that could bring joy and a sense of community. Their search led them to Stone Ridge NY, where they stumbled upon Cherries, a classic ice cream shop in need of a new owner to continue its legacy. Over the past two summers, Cherries has become more than just an ice cream shop. They have revitalized a beloved neighborhood icon, fostered a close-knit community, and even mastered the perfect soft-serve swirl.
As the weather heats up and visitors seek cool, refreshing spots, they’ve expanded Cherries into a new physical space: Cherries General. This general store, featuring indoor seating and an array of additional sweet treats, showcases the team’s branding expertise while supporting underrepresented minority and women founders and clients.
Cherries and Cherries General have not only rejuvenated a local landmark but also provided creative and professional opportunities for the team at The Working Assembly and their clients including custom-branded and sourced candy from The Working Assembly team; a sticker machine with custom-designed tattoos and stickers for kids; the honor of ringing the New York Stock Exchange bell for National Ice Cream Day; and an agency initiative to offer their design and creative team hands-on experience with product merchandising and retail business acumen.
