New Albright-Knox Website Makes Art More Accessible

Bluecadet has redesigned the website for the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo NY. The new site launches as the museum, which  houses one of the world’s great collections of contemporary and modern art, embarks on a major expansion project. The website tells the history and ambitions of the institution, and features a robust interactive timeline that walks visitors through the museum’s campus from its earliest days through the upcoming AK360 expansion. Philadelphia-based Bluecadet explains that fundamental to its strategy, “was research into a unique taxonomy of content, helping the gallery better organize and deliver content across devices to a range of users and visitors.”

A focal point of the website is the Search the Collection section, which enables users to search for artworks in the Albright-Knox’s collection by artist, title, object type, date range, and more. Site visitors can also see which works are on view, collection highlights, and recent acquisitions. The site provides basic information about each artwork and a large image for most works. Where copyright allows, users can enlarge and download images for personal and educational uses.

Additional new features include a Plan Your Visit page that allows visitors to see what events and exhibitions are happening on any given day; a Find an Event page that lets visitors browse upcoming events, or search by date, type, audience, and keyword; and a Learn and Discover section that guides visitors to explore the museum’s offerings by audience segment — adults, educators, kids and families, Members, researchers, teens, and visitors with disabilities.
