YouTube Redesign Goes Dark

YouTube is redesigning for computers and laptops, with a look that users of its mobile app will find familiar. Among the dramatic changes: a new “dark theme” that turns the background to black throughout the site, as an option meant to cut down on glare and better highlight videos themselves.

The new home page still includes most of the same carousels and navigation links as before, but now it has more white space — or dark space. (The dark mode switch lives in a new profile menu). In the new design, YouTube makes use of Material Design’s signature shadowing, which you can access by clicking on your profile picture in the top right. To see the new design, users can opt-in to a preview and to give feedback.
