B.F.A. candidate Bridget Swayne is studying Communications Design at PrattMWP College of Art and Design ‒ Pratt Institute’s Upstate campus in Utica NY. As a creative problem solver she appreciates a challenge and is quite ambitious when it comes to personal projects. Her approach to an assignment starts with various brainstorming methods and visual research. She is optimistic and enjoys working with others; in the studio she can be found inspiring other students through art direction.

WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND WHERE DO YOU LIVE NOW?
Born in Denver CO however I was raised in Vancouver BC. I have spent the majority of my life there but have also lived on the North Carolina coast.

LEFTY OR RIGHTY?
I’m right handed but sometimes I can use my left hand. I would love to be ambidextrous.

MORNING PERSON OR NIGHT OWL?
Definitely a night owl. I enjoy daytime naps and staying up at night until the sun shines.

FAVORITE CHILDHOOD TV SHOW?
Although it is not a children’s television show my dad and I would watch The Simpsons.

LAST BOOK YOU READ?
The Four Agreements. If you aren’t aware of them they are: Be impeccable with your word. Don’t take anything personally; Don’t make assumptions. Always do your best.

ANY PETS?
Yes! I have a cat named Penny who lives with me at school. His best friend is a pair of earmuffs.

FAVORITE FREE TIME ACTIVITY?
Free time is arbitrary, but I do enjoy carving my designs into woodblocks or linoleum.

DO YOU COLLECT ANYTHING?
You know how sometimes a rock will get stuck in your shoe? Well I call those little memories that I’ve picked up along the way.

COLOR USED MOST OFTEN IN YOUR DESIGN?
Tints and shades of cooler colors, blues, purples and greens.

TYPEFACE USED MOST OFTEN?
I have always enjoyed using Helvetica but I was recently exposed to the variety in Univers.

GREATEST STRENGTH/WEAKNESS AS A DESIGNER?
My greatest weakness is being a perfectionist. I always want something to be exactly right, but my biggest strength is being optimistic, which I would say creates a nice balance.

IF YOU WERE NOT A DESIGNER, WHAT WOULD YOU BE?
I would always be an artist. I enjoy photography, illustration, poetry writing and printmaking.
