KANSAS CITY ART INSTITUTE
My foundation in photography made it easy to transition from typography as message to typography as image, and provided me a strong compositional background. I started out amid the basics — compositions and color theory, photoshop and imagemaking — with no way to put them together. And then I found design. Since then, I’ve worked to increase my understanding of what design can be, which has in turn improved every single part of my practice, from first sketch to the third final draft. Design has influenced my life in a way that nothing else ever has. The growth and satisfaction that happens when a project, big or small, is completed keeps me engaged and ready for more. I live to soak up the small moments, the unappreciated typographic signs of the world, the shadow that falls in just the right way to inspire. While my journey in design was difficult at first I would say that it is one of the things that now keeps me truly alive. It drives my every move and I love it — obsessively and proudly.
