Tom Ventress Updates Identity He Created 16 Years Ago

Graphic designer Tom Ventress of Portland OR was asked to create a new logo for a Nashville TN client whose branding he had first created 16 years earlier. The symbol features a plumb bob in a true-to-life, brass-colored hue.
When graphic designer Tom Ventress of Ventress Design Works answered his phone months ago, he didn’t expect to hear from a client whose corporate branding he had first created sixteen years earlier, but Nashville’s current construction boom has kept Barge Civil Associates busier than ever with private and public-sector clients. A pending name change for the civil engineering firm prompted Liza Rivers, Partner, and Director of Business Administration, to reach out for his help.
The new logo, with the plumb bob shown in a true-to-life, brass-colored hue, offsets the warm navy blue in the typography. Updated branding appears on their corporate communications, website, hard hats, safety vests, athletic shirts, as well as headquarters and on-site signage.  Says Ventress: “BCA is a wonderful group of people and it was an honor to be asked to redesign their logo. They were very happy with what I designed for them in 2006, so my task was to create a new, but related, identity that builds on the old and extends the brand as they continue to grow.”
Adds Liza Rivers: “I told Tom, ‘We want to maintain our tradition and value, but are open to something new and exciting,’ and he came through with flying colors. The first stage was to have the full name incorporated into the logo to ensure our identity was transferred from Barge Cauthen to Barge Civil. The second stage will be to drop the Barge Civil and simply use BCA. Tom created a logo using the initials with the plumb bob as the primary focus of the brand with the full name below it. Eventually, we will simply convert to the initials/plumb bob when the time comes to do so.”
