Hoefler & Co. has introduced a new typewriter-inspired typeface, Operator. In addition to the usual menu of bolds, italics and everything in between, the Operator font family also features H&Co’s first-ever fixed-width style called Operator Mono, appealing to designers and developers alike. Aesthetically, the Operator family captures the traditional look of typewriting while combining the personal touch of handwriting, for a look intended to evoke a sense of earnestness and down-home charm.
In an interesting blogpost, Jonathan Hoefler explains the process by which he and Senior Designer Andy Clymer determined to design Operator both ways, as a natural-width and as fixed-width.
