Adam Taylor runs a design and marketing agency in Red Bank NJ. Splendor started in 1999 and focused strictly on design in the early years. The team of 14 and growing is now taking on large campaigns across all channels, but remains faithful to the notion that even the smallest project deserves to look its best. Adam studied fine art in college, but it was working in a print shop where he slipped and fell into the world of commercial graphic design. He eventually started Splendor without any money or real design experience. But he leaned on his critical eye and undying curiosity and passion — that’s what guided Splendor along a road less traveled. And there were plenty of painful lessons about business ownership along the way, but the company is now comprised of a great collaborative team of seriously talented folks. Splendor experienced nearly 100% growth in 2019.
THE FUTURE OF THE GRAPHIC DESIGN BUSINESS?
In the digital realm, I see some really nice editorial layouts continuing to emerge. People are paying attention to the rules and a more classic approach, which I think makes everything nicer to look at. But deploying via modern media channels also means thinking about motion and dynamics. It will be interesting to watch this stuff come to life in new ways, and see witness some of the young talent that will rise to the challenge.
