Design Firm Brings Mobile Office To Remote Workers

Design agency CEO DJ Haddad of Haddad & Partners has taken an unorthodox approach to navigating through the pandemic and remote work. Haddad explains:

“Our agency is based in Fairfield CT but we have always been remote; in fact, the original 4 of us were spread out between the US, France, England, and Australia. We now have 70+ employees and over the past few years those of us in the Northeast would meet up at the office once a month, but unfortunately we had to pause this due to Covid. These meet-ups were the highlight of my month so a few of us started brainstorming about what we could do to continue the tradition; maybe instead of everyone coming to the office, we could bring the office to them. At this point we aren’t getting much use out of the office anyway but with an RV we can truly be mobile.
.

We have a lot of plans in the works for the RV. First off, we need to name it, so, we are currently hosting a company-wide competition to come up with the perfect name. As a ‘soft launch’ we are going to do a couple of local road trips throughout CT to employee’s homes or parking it at some of the state parks once it gets warmer. But later, we plan on driving it out to Colorado to visit some of our employees there. We also have a number or community and charitable events being planned, such as volunteering at local food banks, etc.

With or without Covid I am stuck at home with 4 little kids for the foreseeable future so I’m afraid that my trips are going to be relatively short and local, so I plan on living vicariously through the younger generation of designers, copywriters, and project managers who have the freedom and flexibility to really take this ‘office’ on the road and push the limits of what a true ‘mobile’ office can be.”
