Asian American Designers Break The Silence

Creative agency, consultancy and technology company Wunderman Thompson has partnered with six Asian American and Pacific Islander artists to work on Outspoken By Design, a a group art show celebrating, supporting and amplifying AAPI voices with the goal of raising money and awareness to #StopAsianHate.

To spread awareness and show support of AAPI Heritage Month, Wunderman Thompson is calling on AAPI designers across the globe to submit designs. The final work with appear in a printed booklet, which will be donated to the first 500 people who donate $20 or more to either @StopAAPIHate or @AAPIWomenLead.

“As an Asian American and creative director living in California witnessing the violence targeting our AAPI communities in recent months, I felt a deep responsibility to take action,” says Susie Lim, senior vice president and creative director at Wunderman Thompson. “Our AAPI upbringing has focused on silence and echoes of our parents telling us, “Don’t get involved” continue to reverberate in our society. We’re here to break that silence – speaking out on behalf of ourselves and others and we’re learning that we have a voice and that we’ve always had a voice. We’re challenging AAPI designers to bring their voice to life through design,” she adds.

The brief for artists is to create a design piece (illustration, photo or collage) that addresses the question “What do you want to say in this current climate?” The deadline for the artwork is June 9th, 2021.
