This summer marked 50 years since Neil Armstrong landed on the moon. To commemorate the historic event, the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum launched its “Apollo At the Park” campaign and enlisted Spaeth Hill to design the new logo and branded package. The logo draws inspiration from vintage space and aeronautic campaigns, as well as the work of designers like Otl Aicher. Apollo at the Park debuted at Nationals Park in Washington DC and is being exhibited at 15 MLB parks around the country throughout the summer. The installation features life-sized replica statues of astronaut Armstrong’s spacesuit — with input from Spaeth Hill on the helmet, merging the retro-NASA feel with a nod to baseball.
In addition to “Apollo At The Park,” Spaeth Hill is also working with Air & Space on the larger Apollo project and has designed additional logos, social media images, and even wallpaper for the celebration.
