Maurice has recently joined Fog Creek Software in content marketing after several years as principal and creative director at Lunch, a multidisciplinary studio in Atlanta where he developed a reputation for building strong creative brands and for fostering relationships with underrepresented communities. Maurice is also a pioneering digital creator, well-known for the Black Weblog Awards, the Web’s longest running event celebrating Black bloggers, video bloggers, and podcasters. Other projects include his award winning design podcast Revision Path, 28 Days of the Web, and The Year of Tea.

I was born in Selma AL and I currently live in Atlanta GA
DID YOU GO TO DESIGN SCHOOL?
I did not go to design school. I graduated from an HBCU — Morehouse College — with a degree in Mathematics.

Not especially – most of my work has been multimedia (web and audio), but I have done some print pieces from time to time.

GREATEST STRENGTH/WEAKNESS AS A DESIGNER?
My greatest strength is my work ethic and my analytical nature.
ADVICE TO A YOUNG DESIGNER JUST STARTING OUT?
Work hard to establish your personal brand and design language. At the end of the day, no matter if you work for yourself or for a company, it will be what sustains you as a designer.
