Megan Kesting

AUBURN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF INDUSTRIAL + GRAPHIC DESIGN

I grew up surrounded by artists. From a young age, I knew I wanted to be in a creative field. In high school, I primarily focused on fine arts; drawing, ceramics, and darkroom photography. During my senior year of high school, I experimented with Photoshop and was blown away with how tactile fine art skills crossed into the world of technology. After that, I was set on becoming a designer. My career, so far, has not been easy, but it has been so rewarding. I have loved having studio space to experiment with new processes and techniques. Process and concepts are the most important to me. I check out books, and conduct consumer and visual research before touching Illustrator or In-design. I also start projects by building conceptual stories and creating in-depth personas of my audience. My process is “old school.” I create illustrations by hand, scan in random objects, and use typography as image. I start every project by creating collages and always have a stack of magazines to cut up.
