Ribbon Identity Suggests Unity

Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv Design American250 Identity

July 4th, 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in the United States. America250 is the nonpartisan organization charged with orchestrating the 250th Anniversary and aims to create an inclusive commemoration in American history. Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv designed the identity.

The inspiration for the mark comes from the idea of ribbons, which signify commemoration, celebration, and purpose. For America250, a flowing red, white, and blue ribbon forms the number 250 as a single continuous path, suggesting unity, cooperation, and harmony. The icon is joined by the name America in an elegant serif lettering to establish a visual identity for this important milestone and beyond.

The initiative has already begun with the “America’s Invitation” campaign, which asks citizens to contribute stories, songs, poems, images, and videos that express what America means to them. Further events, campaigns, and partnerships will arise as the 250th date draws nearer.

The visual identity for America250 is intended to unify these various activities and campaigns – formal and informal – creating cohesion and giving a stamp of approval.
