2016 is the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. In commemoration, Presenting Shakespeare, a new book from Princeton Architectural Press, displays 1,100 — yes 1,100! — posters of Shakespeare’s plays designed by an international roster of artists representing 55 countries, from Japan to Colombia, India, Russia, Australia, and beyond. The book is organized by play, thus giving readers insights into each plays many interpretations.
It’s been assembled for the first time in a single volume by creative community stars Mirko Ilic and Steven Heller. Director Julie Taymor writes in her preface, “the greatness of a Shakespeare play is its allowance for multiple interpretations, as one can witness from the extreme diversity of the posters within this book.”
