MiresBall has designed the packaging for a new beer by Coronado Brewing introduced in collaboration with the Surfrider Foundation. Since a portion of sales go to the foundation to support its mission of protecting the ocean and beaches, it was natural that the design advance the theme.
Creative Director John Ball explains that the name CoastWise was selected for its meaning, “following the coast,” which gives a nod to both brands. Created by Associate Creative Director Miguel Pérez and Senior Designer Shawn Ritzenthaler, the can, carton and master carton features playful lettering and an illustration inspired by a sea-protecting Poseidon, giving the look a whimsical aura. The project follows a successful rebrand of the Coronado company by MiresBall in 2015, including its brand tagline “Stay Coastal.”
