One Zero Charlie has developed the brand and identity for a toffee produced and sold in the design studio’s local area, in Illinois some 50 miles northwest of Chicago. Dorothy Altstatt Burchard was a mother of ten who, we are told, “provided love, gave strong advice, feared nothing, lived through war, lived through peace, traveled the country, smoked on the porch, sang old hymns with a southern twang, and perfected her amazing toffee.” Her legacy lives on through her 9th child, Jim. Desiring to preserve the tradition, mom and son stood by the stove cooking together as she taught him all the secrets before she passed. Mom’s Perfect Toffee is the result, produced in small batches and sold in small bags “so you can taste a slice of what Dorothy did as she built an empire of 80 (and counting) descendants.”
