Kristina Moncelsi

SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSITY

Kristina Moncelsi is a graphic design student from Dunellen, New Jersey currently pursuing a BFA in Graphic Design from Susquehanna University. Her favorite fields of design include UI/UX design and branding. Kristina has always had an interest in art and has a soft spot for DIY crafting as well, but seeing her mother succeed as a graphic designer throughout her childhood is what pushed her into pursuing design for herself. When she’s not hiking, reading, or watching Formula 1, you can probably catch Kristina cuddled up with a blanket doodling in Procreate. As a senior about to enter the professional world of design, Kristina is excited to utilize both her knowledge from the design program at SU and her experience as the manager of the campus Print Shop to begin a path of learning and development as a designer.

WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL INSPIRED?

Graphic design is everywhere, so it’s hard not to be inspired by just observing the world around me, but as a music buff and a fan of rock and roll, I love to draw inspiration from vintage band posters!

WHAT AREA OR AREAS OF DESIGN ARE YOU HOPING TO WORK IN OR SPECIALIZE IN?

I love both branding and UI/UX design, so I’m hoping to work in an area that will allow me to grow in either or both of those fields and expand the skills I currently have from Susquehanna’s program.

WHAT ARE YOU READING, LISTENING TO, WATCHING?

I’m always listening to a thousand different genres of music, but my favorite band The Dirty Heads has been on repeat lately, and I just finished the new season of The Crown on Netflix. I also recently finished the monster of a sci-fi novel that is Stephen King’s 11/22/63 about what would have happened if someone had stopped the JFK assassination.

DO YOU CURRENTLY, OR DO YOU PLAN TO, DESIGN FOR ANY CAUSES OR CHARITIES?

I do not currently design for any causes or charities, but if I were to have the opportunity to in the future, I would love to work with any kind of non-profit organization that had to do with the National Parks, National Geographic or just nature preservation in general. Nature has always been an integral part of my life growing up and I would love to work towards keeping our natural planet beautiful.

DO YOU FEEL THAT DESIGN SCHOOL HAS PREPARED YOU TO SEARCH FOR AND FIND A JOB?

I think Susquehanna’s program has done an amazing job of not only preparing their students to feel comfortable searching for jobs, but also teaching them how to excel in those jobs in a professional setting. Our projects mimic realistic assignments we would get in a wide variety of roles as a designer and the University is even offering a new Business of Graphic Design class in the spring that I am so excited to be taking.
