Maegan Luckiesh

IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY

Maegan Luckiesh is a second year graduate student pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in graphic design from Iowa State University. She’s earned two undergraduate degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in communication with an emphasis in public relations and a Bachelor of Science in graphic design.

Maegan’s experience includes working as the lead layout designer for a small newspaper in Nebraska and as a designer for an advertising agency in the Orlando, Florida area. She currently works as a research assistant for the graphic design department at Iowa State University. Maegan’s graduate thesis revolves around changing people’s perspectives on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and the ADHD experience.

Outside of work, Maegan enjoys reading, traveling, and other artforms including painting and photography. Maegan’s love for travel has allowed her the opportunity to study abroad in France, Switzerland, Belize and Guatemala, further cultivating her passion for learning from other cultures and influencing her design style. Recently, Maegan’s photography was featured in an ISU art exhibit.

In addition to pursuing a master’s degree, Maegan runs a small-batch clean candle company featuring carbon-friendly, non-toxic vegan scents made by hand.

People, new experiences, and getting out of my comfort zone.

WHAT AREA OR AREAS OF DESIGN ARE YOU HOPING TO WORK IN OR SPECIALIZE IN?

I enjoy how versatile design can be and would like a career filled with a wide variety of experiences. I’m working towards becoming an art or creative director.

DO YOU PLAN TO DESIGN FOR ANY CAUSES OR CHARITIES (IE. DESIGN FOR GOOD)?

Two causes that are close to my heart are ocean conservation and cancer research. Both of which I would love to contribute my design expertise to helping.

DO YOU FEEL THAT DESIGN SCHOOL HAS PREPARED YOU TO FIND A JOB?

Grad school has taught me to be ready for anything, which I think will absolutely help me in my future career.
