Emmeline Walker

BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY

Emmeline Walker is a senior Graphic Design BFA student at Brigham Young University. She was raised in Athens, Georgia, surrounded by an artistic family, which fostered her creative spirit. Growing up, she was fascinated with art and the behind-the-scenes of the creative process. As a designer, Emmeline enjoys exploring the intersection between design and human connection, believing that design can enhance everyday life. Her work prioritizes authenticity over perfection and channels the power of design to craft memorable brands. Both sophisticated and playful energy runs through her work as she communicates through illustration, typography, and motion design. When she is not designing you will find her watching way too many films, making collages, and digging through antique stores. After her collegiate journey comes to a close, she hopes to continue on her path of artistic experimentation and professional growth.

WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL INSPIRED?

I always feel inspired after witnessing how art and design can influence people’s behavior. Observing how people can react so deeply to a film, a restaurant’s atmosphere, a photograph, a piece of furniture, or a brand identity motivates me to contribute great design to the world.

WHAT AREA OR SPECIALTY ARE YOU HOPING TO WORK IN?

After graduation, I would love to work in publication design, branding, or art direction. I love overseeing the “big picture” and seeing how all different areas of design come together to create a unique identity for the project.

WHAT IS ONE THING THAT DESIGN SCHOOL HAS TAUGHT YOU THAT YOU DID NOT EXPECT?

I did not expect to learn so much about myself in design school. I started with an overly perfectionistic attitude and through the help of my professors and classmates, I have been able to let go and put my authentic self into my designs. I’ve learned design that shows genuine human emotion is always more relatable and successful.

WHAT ARE YOU READING, LISTENING TO, WATCHING (BOOKS, MOVIES, TV, SOCIAL MEDIA, MUSIC)?

Recently I have loved watching documentaries about how all of my favorite films were made, the process is so exciting to see! I also really like listening to podcasts like Design Matters with Debbie Millman.
